TAG Senate Bill 2145

What is TAG Senate Bill 2145?

A proposed bill seeking to REPEAL the gifted and talented student allotment

The voices of parents and voters are needed on this urgent issue! A hearing on Senate Bill 2145 will be held on Tuesday, April 18th so please contact your senator* with the clear message that you are sending your child to school for an education of equal opportunity, not an education of equity.

*Email contact information of Senate Education Committee Members representing HPISD voters:

As a strong student advocate, I believe in an education of opportunity for all. TASA's transformative vision for education in Texas and the profile "Learner for the Future" does NOT support this belief. Instead, "Learner for the Future" supports an education of equity, not opportunity. HPISD developed this profile in 2012, implemented it in 2013, and presented a plan in 2014 that required changing our facilities to create new "learning environments" to support this new learning philosophy.

My opponent Stacy Kelly served on two committees that advocated for and set this transformation in motion:

  • HPISD Learner for the Future (Core Writing Team)

  • HPISD Facilities Visioning Group

A vote for Meg Bakich is a vote to preserve district independence, educational traditions and academic excellence.
